California Marriage License Records Search Tips

Currently, the California Department of Public Health Office of Vital Records does not keep records on whether or not a couple is same gender or of two genders due to its newest addition in same sex marriage.

In California there are options for confidential marriage records in which only the two members of the party named on the record itself are able to obtain copies and they are then only able to obtain such copies from the County Clerk’s Office of the county where the two members got married.

Due to changes in forms granted by same sex marriage new forms are going to be released and in some counties are already being used.

When going to get a copy of your marriage license from a County Clerk’s Office, here are some things you may want to have with you:
• Your valid state photo I.D
• A second form of identification that has a signature (credit cards, some state identification also contains a signature, etc)
• Enough money for any possible fees
• Any forms you may need
